BEQUESTS AND BENEFICIARY PROCEEDSBEQUESTS AND BENEFICIARY PROCEEDS

Bequests can be made of the assets you own at the time of your death by simply naming the Foundation in your will or living trust. The benefit to your designated charitable causes occurs upon your death. You can also name the Foundation as beneficiary of assets such as life insurance, annuities or retirement assets.

Bequests

You can leave a specified dollar amount, a percentage of your estate or specific assets to the Foundation.
You maintain flexibility and control of your assets while living.

Beneficiary Proceeds

The asset bypasses probate and goes directly to the Foundation
Your heirs do not pay income or estate taxes on assets designated for the Foundation.

The Foundation receives specific assets upon your death.
You can designate any portion of these assets to the Foundation, and can change this designation throughout your life.

One Donor's Story

The Donor

A single man in his 70’s living in Washington wished to benefit a number of charities important to him, but was not ready to give up control of his assets.

His Gift

After death, the donor’s residual estate will go into a permanent fund at the Foundation.  His estate received a charitable deduction.

The fund will benefit Lutheran World Relief, Lutheran Community Services Northwest, heart and cancer research, his Lutheran church and AIDS ministries within the ELCA.
