Churches Feel Recession's Pinch as Needs Continue to Grow

Churches are feeling the strain of the recession.  There is increased need by congregational members in the area of spiritual and financial help, and depleting resources to offer from the congregations, as they struggle to make ends meet with lowered contributions.

Can Relief Agencies Weather the New Storm?

The 2009 hurricane season began on June 1.  The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is predicting 4-7 hurricanes this year, and relief organizations such as The Salvation Army, American Red Cross, and Catholic Charities USA are prepared to respond.  However, longterm assistance may be compromised by the economy.

Sharp Decline in US Giving - Still Exceeds $300 Billion in 2008

A new edition of Giving USA has been released, indicating the steepest decline in donations since 1956.  However, the decrease for overall giving for 2008 was not as bad as many expected.  Is it a calamity or a relief?  Either way, organizations are experiencing the effects of the bad economy, and as donors, we must ask ourselves, how can we respond?
