Millions have been displaced by flooding in Pakistan, after monsoon rains struck in late July. Officials report that at least 1,600 are dead, and nearly 14 million Pakistanis are affected. UN reports indicate that the disaster has already affected more people than the southeast Asian tsunami and the recent earthquakes in Kashmir and Haiti combined.
Lutheran World Relief (LWR) is distributing emergency relief by working with partners on the ground through the ACT Alliance and International Relief and Development. Please consider making a charitable gift to support LWR's efforts.
From LWR:
"The floods hit as the country continues to struggle to recover from five years of successive disasters, including two devastating earthquakes, massive flooding, and displacement caused by conflict between the Pakistani military and militants. Throughout these disasters, droughts and water shortages have also plagued the region, crippling its agricultural system and food supply.
With thousands still living in makeshift shelters, still trying to recover from previous disasters, food and shelter are the most urgent needs."
