Millions have been displaced by flooding in Pakistan, after monsoon rains struck in late July. Officials report that at least 1,600 are dead, and nearly 14 million Pakistanis are affected. UN reports indicate that the disaster has already affected more people than the southeast Asian tsunami and the recent earthquakes in Kashmir and Haiti combined.

"The floods hit as the country continues to struggle to recover from five years of successive disasters, including two devastating earthquakes, massive flooding, and displacement caused by conflict between the Pakistani military and militants. With thousands still living in makeshift shelters, still trying to recover from previous disasters, food and shelter are the most urgent needs."
