As part of its mission to serve donors, the Foundation works to ensure that all grants from charitable funds achieve the giving objectives of you, the donor. In its role as steward, the Foundation adheres to the following due diligence steps:
- The charitable status of all nonprofits receiving grants is verified and each grantee's financial and program information is reviewed. Charities recommended to benefit from charitable funds of the Foundation must be recognized as IRS-qualified charities. Qualifying charities under section 501(c)(3) include religious, educational and other charitable organizations. Nonprofit organizations whose function is not solely charitable (e.g., professional or veterans organizations, cemetery associations, chambers of commerce and fraternal societies), cannot be recommended to benefit.
- Follow-up reports are required from organizations receiving grants of $10,000 or more to gain insight into the impact of Foundation grants. Visit our Charity Research page for information on specific charities and resources for evaluating them.
- International grants are checked against watch-lists for compliance with Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) sanctions.
