In spring 2008, The Stelter Company combined forces with the nationally nenowned research firm Selzer & Company Inc. to provide insight into who names charities in their wills, when they do it and why. They discovered the audience that gift planners likely target the most today may represent only the tip of the iceberg. Their findings indicate that charities would be well-served reaching out to potential donors when they are in their 40s -- at least 10 to 15 years earlier than the timing that's widely accepted as ideal in the fundraising industry.
