This grant allowed the Dumb Friends League to continue making a difference in the lives of homeless pets in their community last year. In FY09, Dumb Friends League received 26,175 animals. 19,504 cats, dogs, rabbits and other small animals were either reunited with their families, adopted to new homes or transferred to placement partners (other shelters and breed rescue groups).

With the Foundation’s support in FY09, Dumb Friends League were able to:

  • Increase by 24 percent the number of animals transferred in from other shelters and more than 200 animals from out-of-state puppy mills – giving them a second chance at life. 
  • Educate 18,999 children and adults about the importance of compassion and respect for animals through our humane education programs
  • Investigate 1,691 calls regarding cruelty, neglect or abandonment of companion animals and horses
  • Nurture 2,900 pets in loving foster homes until they were ready to be placed for adoption
  • Subsidize spay/neuter surgeries to 5,708 owned cats and dogs from underserved areas in the Denver metro area as well as greater Colorado, through mobile units
