Farmers in Kenya
Lutheran World Relief (LWR) is engaging farmers in Kenya to help themselves and their communities at the same time. In exchange for work on long-term improvements to community irrigation systems, farmers received cash to use immediately to feed their families and pay household expenses.
LWR also works with farmers to rapidly increase food production. Through agricultural training and access to credit, farmers are getting the tools they need to grow more food to contribute to emergency food stores, to sell at market, and to provide for their families to eat.
