SAN DIEGO RESCUE MISSIONSAN DIEGO RESCUE MISSION

San Diego, California
$50,000 from a Donor Advised Fund

The grant was used to support its comprehensive services for men, women and children.

The mission of the San Diego Rescue Mission is to provide food for the hungry, shelter for the homeless, rest for the weary and hope, love and faith to those seeking a different way of life.

One client said, "I came to the Rescue Mission last April with the idea that I would stay just long enough to keep my PO happy. Then I could leave and go right back to what I was doing before. Instead I found an environment that was caring and receptive, and has helped me get over my addiction. "

Another said, "The Rescue Mission has been an awesome journey. I came to the Rescue Mission with serious problems. I now have a sense of peace in my heart and joy. I know addiction is a lifelong battle, and the Rescue Mission has given me the strength to succeed in life."

The San Diego Rescue Mission serves individuals who are homeless, at risk for homelessness, or living at or below the poverty level. Individuals and families are referred by the Mission’s own programs, including the outpatient clinic and emergency shelter, as well as local churches, psychiatrists, and social service agencies. Many new clients are coming by word of mouth from current or past clients. Many are victims of domestic violence, violent crimes, and other forms of trauma, and they need treatment to help them recover.

The Mission also targets those who are about to become homeless. Staff and interns are well-trained and have years of experience in guiding people away from homelessness and back to the path of self-sufficiency.
